Sabrina Kliza, born and based in Detroit, creates sculptural paintings that explore the tension between opulence and collapse. As an environmental major, she draws on themes of climate crisis, social neglect, and inequality. Using kitchen tools like frosting tips, she pipes molding paste in ornate patterns onto canvas, then coats the surface in metallic spray paint and holographic glitter. These gilded textures mask underlying acrylic paintings that depict environmental and societal decay. Sabrina critiques the sugar-coated illusions of wealth and power, transforming domestic materials into confrontational art. Her work invites viewers to look beyond beauty and confront what privilege often hides beneath the surface.
Sabrina Kliza is an emerging artist located in Metro Detroit. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2022 with a degree in Art and Design and a minor in environmental studies. Her artwork has been exhibited at Artprize in Grand Rapids, Embracing our Differences in Ann Arbor, Beeline at 22 North Gallery, and the Edsel and Elanor Ford House. In 2025, her first solo exhibition will take place at the Ann Arbor Art Center.
